(Headteacher of Perins School, Hampshire - A Community Sports College) Janice was educated at Portsmouth High School for Girls, Warwick University and Birmingham University. She has a M.A (Ed) from the Open University. She began teaching in 1977 in Dorset as a main scale History teacher with further posts as a Head of Humanities in Hampshire and two deputy headships, one in an 11-16 school and then in a 13-19 Technology College. At Perins Janice is now in her 9th year of headship in a rural comprehensive school of approximately 1,000 students. The school has recently redesignated as a Sports College and been given additional status as a High Performing School with a focus on Gifted and Talented. Through the YST Perins is a Partnership School and Janice is a Consultant Headteacher. Janice chairs Hampshire’s ICT group representing 71 secondary schools and sits on the county’s Learning Management Strategy Group. She has recently been invited to join Becta’s Leading Leaders network. Within the school Perins won the 2007 Youth Sports Conference Award for Innovation in ICT for our VLE site and the Becta award for Excellence in ICT. Our staff all have notebooks; our current year 7 are taking part in our ‘ Notebooks for Students’ scheme. More importantly than the hardware we see ICT as one of the ways in which we can extend and enrich students learning in the twenty first century. |
